The Man From UNCLE is a spy series that premiered in 1964. The series was created by Norman Felton and Sam Rolfe. It tells the story of two secret agents, played by Robert Vaughn and David McCallum, who work for a fictitious secret international law-enforcement organization called U.N.C.L.E. (United Network Command for Law and Enforcement). The series was the first of its kind to present an espionage thriller that dealt with themes of distrust of government. The show stars Robert Vaughn, David McCallum, Leo G. Carroll, and others. Storylines include secret agents who do not use their names in normal life; hiding behind cover identities such as Bond-style "code names". The series is best remembered for its well-remembered opening sequence (titled “The Alexander Waverly Theme”), created by noted movie trailer music composer John Williams. The theme, written by Jerry Goldsmith, is one of the most famous TV themes ever. The series was broadcast on the ABC television network during its first three seasons, and then moved to NBC for its final two. It ran from 1964 to 1968. The first season of the series was co-produced by MGM Television and Universal Pictures into which the film version company had been absorbed prior to the beginning of the first season. Norman Felton worked as executive producer of the series; Bruce Geller was producer/unit production manager for MGM Television; Sam Rolfe worked as executive producer for Universal Pictures. "The Man From UNCLE" follows secret agents, played by Robert Vaughn and David McCallum who work for a fictitious international law enforcement agency called U.N.C.L.E (United Network Command for Law and Enforcement).
